Myki is the new ticket system for public transport in Victoria, Australia.
It has several critical problems that make it a nightmare for public transport users, i.e. -
- More than $1.35 billion will be wasted, which could have been used on more trains/trams and track.
- Myki cards must be scanned off as well as on, or a much higher penalty fare may be charged.
- Ticket reading machines are slow and unreliable, resulting in queues to get on and off public transport.
- The myki web site is slow and difficult to use, and putting money on your card can take days.
- The Myki card has to be purchased, then passengers have to put money 'in it' to travel.
In summary, it will be slow to use, prone to failure, and often overcharge. Just what you don't want to have in a ticket system! Why
didn't we just modify a working system from overseas?
